Hello, I'm Dr. Hanna Cohen
Licensed Clinical Psychologist & Founder of Sunrise Psychotherapy NY
I provide individual therapy to adults, teens, and children of all backgrounds. I am trained in psychodynamic and attachment-based theory, which I use to understand people through their history and context.

I also have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which I call on to provide patients with more concrete coping skills to help them beyond therapy. Additionally, I am a trained provider in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE & SPACE for ARFID and Failure to Launch), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT).
My Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy is warm, adaptable, down to earth and at times even humorous. I acknowledge that therapy can, at times, be difficult, so I put a strong emphasis on maintaining a safe relationship to allow you to begin to explore and heal.

I have worked in outpatient, academic, community mental health, and hospital settings; which has deepened my belief that the therapeutic relationship are integral to healing.
I value authenticity from my patients and strive to maintain my own authenticity during sessions while building a nurturing environment. Essentially, I hope to get to know each patient holistically, and see their strengths in addition to whatever challenges bring them to therapy. I both listen, while also taking a more active role in therapy sessions.
Ensuring Our Fit
My practice is an open and inclusive environment. All people are welcome and embraced.

Patient feedback is essential, and I will seek it regularly to determine how therapy is working for you. With this said, therapeutic relationships are just like those in the real world, there is no obligation to stay with the first therapist you call, or even meet. If at any point you feel that we are no longer a good fit, I will support you in finding a referral.
Beyond My Practice
Outside of my private practice, I am a clinician, supervisor, and the Assistant Chief Psychologist at Westchester Jewish Community Services' Trager Lemp Center.
In this position, I work with survivors of trauma of all ages. I also supervise doctoral psychology externs, interns, and postdoctoral fellows in addition to social workers. I value teaching and training, and enjoy leading professional presentations with a particular emphasis on trauma therapies, engagement skills, and trauma-informed care. I am also on the Executive Board of the Westchester County Psychological Association.
Outside of work, you can find me outdoors with my husband and puppy, Koufax, or indoors tending to my plant collection.
Diversity Statement
I am a white, Jewish, able-bodied cisgender heterosexual female. I am inclusive of all in my practice and have experience working with clients of many backgrounds.
I welcome the opportunity to work with individuals of different cultures, races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, gender identities, and sexual orientations.
